How to Find What Isn't Selling in Your Sales Spreadsheet

October 29, 2026

A 30-second story. Marco is a made-up baker with sample data; the screens are the real site.

Every small business already has the answer to its biggest questions, sitting in a sales export. The trouble is getting it out. Marco bakes 380 loaves and pastries a day, and every sale lands in his point-of-sale system as one more row. After six months that's 1,440 rows, and the question he actually cares about, which bread am I throwing away?, is buried in all of them.

The answer, in one question

Marco loads the file into JSON Support and types total unsold by item. The answer comes back in under a second:

Rye has the highest total Unsold (1,984), then Sourdough (376), Baguette (284), Brioche (235) and Focaccia (228).

Rye is the problem by a mile. So he bakes less rye, more croissants (which sold out every single day), and stops paying for flour that ends up in the donation crate.

How to do it with your own file

  1. Export your sales as a CSV. Most point-of-sale, booking and online store systems have an export button. One row per sale, per item or per day all work.
  2. Drop it into the free converter. It becomes a table right away, with your column names at the top.
  3. Ask in plain English. Type a question in the box above the table, using your column names, and press Ask.
  4. Use the answer. You get a one-line answer and a table of the matching rows. Download it as Excel or CSV, or copy it into Google Sheets. Reset table brings everything back.

Questions you can ask

These all work on Marco's file. Swap in your own column names:

QuestionWhat you get
total unsold by itemWaste per product, biggest first: Rye leads with 1,984
total revenue by itemYour best earners: Sourdough leads with $78,180
average sold by itemA typical day for each product: Croissant averages 80
item is CroissantEvery croissant row, with its revenue added up
total revenueOne number for the whole file: $320,148.50

It isn't just bakeries

The same question works wherever a business keeps a list of what happened:

Your sales data stays on your computer

Sales files are sensitive. JSON Support builds the table and answers your questions inside your browser, so the file is never uploaded. There's no account, no email and nothing stored. See where your data goes.

FAQ

Can I use an Excel file instead of a CSV?

Save it as CSV first: in Excel choose File, Save As, then CSV UTF-8. Then drop the CSV into the converter and ask your question.

Is my sales data uploaded anywhere?

No. The table, the questions and the answers are all worked out in your browser. Your file never leaves your device.

Do I need an account?

No. It's free, with no sign-up and no email.

What if my question isn't understood?

Name a column from your file, like total revenue by item or item is Croissant. For other wording, the page offers an optional AI that also runs on your device, after a one-time download.
